Finishes
-
Colour
Color finishes provide a diverse range of hues to suit various design preferences, while colour matching services ensure precise coordination with existing decor or specific project requirements, guaranteeing a seamless and harmonious outcome.
-
Stains and Waxes
Wood stains penetrate the wood to enrich its natural colour and grain, while waxes create a protective layer that adds a velvety finish, resulting in enhanced visual appeal and prolonged durability for wooden surfaces.
-
Spray
We use water or acrylic-based spray finishes, which are more eco-friendly coatings applied via spray guns, producing reduced VOC emissions compared to solvent-based alternatives.
-
Cutting
Cutting picture frames with a guillotine ensures precision and efficiency, particularly with softwoods, while utilizing a saw for hardwoods guarantees consistency and accuracy across all projects.
-
Joining
Joining picture frames with an underpinner ensures sturdy and seamless corner connections, particularly on softwoods, while our Hoffman router, with its precision and versatility, excels at creating tight, consistent dovetail-routed joints, ideal for joining hardwoods with precision and durability
-
Sanding
Hand sanding picture frames allows us the opportunity for meticulous attention to detail, ensuring every surface is flawlessly smooth and ready for any additional finishes. This hands-on process not only guarantees a perfect foundation for further treatment but also enhances the craftsmanship and quality of the final product.
Mount Styles
-
Window Mount
The window mount, also known as a 'passe-partout,' features an aperture with a beveled edge, allowing for the insertion of artwork with the glass on one side and the artwork on the other. This design creates an air gap equal to the thickness of the mount board
-
Float Mount
Box frames employ a spacer between the glass and the mount-board to establish a void spacious enough to hang the artwork without direct contact with the glass. In float mounting, the artwork is positioned in front of the mount-board, ensuring its complete visibility, which is particularly advantageous when showcasing artwork with edge details .
-
Raised Float/Shadow Mount
A shadow, or 'raised,' float employs similar techniques as float mounting, but with an additional hidden support structure behind the artwork to elevate it from the backboard. This technique creates an illusion of the artwork floating in space, adding depth and dimension to the presentation.
-
Close Mount (With or without Spacer)
Close mounting is a method of displaying artwork without a visible mount. The artwork is affixed to a piece of mount-board of identical size, and then inserted directly into a frame, positioned snugly against any spacers if necessary. This technique provides a clean and contemporary presentation, highlighting the artwork without the distraction of visible mounts.
